In This Week’s Box: Leeks, Sweet Peppers, Lettuce, Broccoli, Tomatoes, Carrots, Napa Cabbage, Daikon Radish and Potatoes
This week’s box mirrors the recent changes in the weather, a strong feeling of fall, with a few remaining hints of summer. When I saw the vegetables in the share this week, I immediately thought about making a pot of potato leek soup. One thing I love about the return of the cooler weather is incorporating warming soups back into our diet. This week we also give you the opportunity to make a batch of kim chi with some of the vegetables in your share. If you have never made kim chi before, it is a simple and rewarding process. Our wonderful local library has many resources on the subject of fermentation, I especially recommend those written by Sandor Katz. There are also (of course) a vast number of recipes on the internet. Although it is not traditional, we will often forgo the spicy pepper component, which makes it very appealing to our children. You could even add some of those sweet peppers to yours instead, to maintain some of that classic red color of traditional kim chi.
